Another RAW image problem

I changed the file type to NEF (RAW) on my D50. I can't open them on my computer. It gives me this message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" when I try to open it in Photoshop CS2.

I did NOT install the Nikon software, if that matters.

Why can't my computer open NEF files?

Photoshop itself won't open a RAW file...it needs to convert the file into an image. Photoshop uses a built-in program called Adobe Camera RAW. ACR has to be updated to know the files from each new camera. Go to the Adobe web site and download the newest version of ACR...then try to open your RAW files. Or install the included software.
