driving home from school, I always see this little patch of grass/field so yesterday I decided to pull over because I had my camera and it was cloudy the light was pretty.

My kids hate to be photographed, much like all photographers kids, my middle son actually enjoys it the most and I can usually get him for a few shots...

Where I live it is the high 70's lately and the flowers are blooming, which is odd, but this tree looks so pretty in the middle of the dead trees/winter loss.

Those that shoot outside often are you always friggen watching for fireants, we can't go anywhere that doesnt have a ton of them. sigh...

I like how he contrasts with the barn in #4 and how it "houses" him from the busy-ness of the rest of the background.

Great pictures #1 captures the little girl very well. #2 I like the photo, but I am not a huge fan of the vignette, almost seems to be a little too much. #3 is a great close up but a lot of people always sees the child looking up to them so maybe change the angle to make.it seem as if he is bigger, or shoot at his level. #4 is a great shot, maybe move a little bit closer to have the busy background at a minimum, this will also make him larger in the frame. Keep up the good work.

Yes, the last shot is really nice. I like the little lighted patch he's in. WHat I do not get is the new-fangled "put 'em wayyyy off to one side" compositional device seen in shots #1 and #3...why are you doing that?

Is there some type of reason behind that? It looks trendy for the sake of trendiness to me...it wastes a LOT of the frame, especially on a horizontal like #3...

Anyway, I LIKE the way you're using a telephoto lens, and defocusing the backgrounds just a little bit--the barn and tree in the last shot have been shown...leaving the tree limb in on that oak tree sort of adds something. On shot #2, of your son in the little field in front of the tree with branches, I think that one branch (the one that points downward) in the middle of the image needs to be cloned out...it's just very,very distracting. You deserve to be commended for seeing the good light and location and stopping...shooting in a lighted field or area with a darker background area is a really great way to add a wonderful "depth" effect!

The branch thing, I guess I am trying to frame the photo, it is really big right now to find the natural framing in an image and I think the limbs and such give the photo depth, as far as the comp, 1 was a oh hurry up and get it I wasnt really ready snap because my daughter was scared of the fire ants and that was basically the only shot I got of her before she ran back to the van and my older son is so not into my photos, lol....
