I was going to get the Canon 50mm 1.4 ( which I used to have but wasn't using and sold to put towards some other purchases ) now my fastest lens is a 2.8 and I want something atleast a stop or two faster for ambient light purposes but also for bokeh effects. After examining my options, I went with the Tamron 60mm f/2 Macro. One stop faster, just a tad longer, and also a true macro which is something I don't have in my arsenal ( I have tubes ). Since I don't use super fast portrait lenses too often, I wanted to get a lens that could cover a few uses. I hear the Tamron can have slow focus at times, but the Canon 50mm 1.4 was never super fast ( not a true ring USM like the 85mm 1.8 is ) and I assume the Sigma is the same ( was never impressed with Sigmas "HSM" AF speeds. ) The Tamron has 7 blades and I think the Sigma has 9, so it would be assumed that the Sigma has more "round" bokeh than the Tamron, but the Tamrons may be satisfactory as well ( I haven't received mine yet to test.
