What's new

Anyone does any kind of Painting?

Not for ten years. But when I did I had a blast. I want to get back into it but it's such a big investment to get going again.

Oh I did acrylic, water color and dabbled in oils. I hated watercolor.

Did some body paint, now I' d have to use bondo first . Lol. Ed

I painted this for you.

Nope. I have done it..don't like it. I prefer graphite and colored pencil.

Try heading down to the auctionhouses every so often. You'd be amazed how much hobby stuff gets put through because a family member died or there is a house clearance - things like paint brushes, paints and all the other things can sometimes go for almost next to nothing. Granted some really good or modern stuff goes for nearer market value; but otherewise you can pick up some very good bargains

Yes.

Both art & maintenance.

I get it from my mother's side of the family - great-great grandfather, grandfather, 2 uncles - but it's a menfolk thing.
I've not fathered any sons, and neither of my daughters paint - so I'm the end of the line.

I started with watercolour, graduated to guash, then oil then I stopped and picked up a camera. It became expensive too so I took up piano. Then I came to America and painted the walls downstairs on the first level...does this last one count? What is this question about? Why are you asking...I haven't painted my new piano yet...

Painted the house a few weeks ago. I prefer latex to oil based.

I did some painting the other day, actually. Latex on plaster. I call it "Now the kitchen doesn't look as crappy."

I actually tried my hand at painting. I'm a miserable failure when it comes to paint, and I'm not kidding.

Composition in photography is largely grounded on fine art painting. Curious if anyone has any formal education on art.

I used to do a bit of sketching a while ago, but only limited to cars. No such formal education in art though. I studied Visual Communication.

I was always so envious of people who could draw. I can't. Not at all. Not even my stick figures are passable.

Oddly enough, I was okay at watercolor. Never took a class and I never practiced it long enough to get consistent results. One day I might paint a sunflower and it looked like a sunflower, but the next day's attempt would look like a squashed bug. But I got decent enough results that suggested that I might have a chance at being more skilled in that medium. It's something I've wanted to revisit in a more formal way.

My lack of drawing ability was one of the things that led me to photography in the first place. It was mostly satisfying but still lacked that more tactile experience I wanted when I tried to paint. It's probably why I'm still so attached to film and especially instant film that can be physically manipulated with emulsion lifts, transfers, and recovered negatives.
