Anyone got pics of their photo processing setup ?

I don't and won't own any Apple equipment for personal reasons but it is fair to say that the Apple operating system is far more stable than Windows. It is based on Unix like the Linux operating systems. You need to remember that Windows was originally written as a graphical user interface for DOS which was really just a control program rather than a multi-user operating system like Unix. In time it got multitasking and networking but the goal was always to be as backward compatible as possible. So what we have today is a kluge that is quite sophisticated but still flawed because it was built on a DOS foundation.

I use Windows 10 in all my computers except for one running Linux. My web server, on the other hand, is run on Linux. I used to have to reboot my Windows web server regularly or at least restart IIS. The Linux server just runs and runs and runs circles around the old Windows server.

So is Apple worth it? I think so if stability is your primary concern. I think not if application software is the primary concern. Nothing wrong with Apple software but the application software options for windows are many times greater. If my business software would run on Linux I would use it exclusively but, alas, not the case.

Windows 10 is just a 132-bit bungle of a 64-bit patch for a 32-bit program based on a 16-bit rewrite of an 8-bit fix of a broken 4-bit OS by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

Some P.O.S. $300 off-the-shelf tower (most likely clearance) connected to a 2008(7?) Samsung 46 inch led tv with no more infrared so it doesn't turn off unless the pc is "sleeping".

But Windows is so badly written, the updates are required. I have had my iMac for eight months and there has only been one update in that time. How many Windows updates have there been in the last eight months?

I have no problem with the updates, they run in the back seemlessly so I don't understand the hostility towards Windows. Now if you just plain and simple like the interface and functionality of OSX, that is all and well. Apple has a very subset of hardware they allow to run on their relatively closed ecosystem where Windows works with a ridiculous amount so obviously there is going to be issues. I'm not defending Windows over OSX, but bashing it because it needs updates to stay compatible with newer hardware or even security updates is a little unfair. Before anyone says Apple doesn't have security issues, No, not as many. They have them, but don't catch as much flack since the ratio is incredibly weighted with PC's having a overwhelming share of the market.

Don't take this the wrong way guys, I'm still interested in a Mac and just want to know if it will help me better with photo editing and video editing since that will be the primary purchase.

I never took a picture of it out of the box, only a snap of when I first got it and had it sitting at my ex boyfriend's house before unpacking it at home. The only thing not pictured is the Spider4 Pro and my headphones. Anything more is unnecessary in my opinion.

You have a really fancy setup, but I don't see the one thing that separates a real photo editor from someone who's just messing around, and that's a graphic tablet. That is the most important hardware tool to anyone who is serious about quality photo editing.

Also just to throw this out there, I have zero qualms with Windows. I'm a fan of whatever get's the job done, I just enjoy the sleek look of Apple hardware. For being a 21.5 inch display that also houses the entire computer, it takes up relatively no space.

If Photoshop ran on Ubuntu, I would be using that for sure, although it would be hard for me to say goodbye to the iMac because of it's design. It boggles my mind that the entire computer is housed with the display and takes up 7 inches from front to back. It takes about 2 minutes for me to pack it up to take it somewhere else (I often can't get work done at home so I take it to a fellow photog's house or sometimes to a 24 hour coffee shop near my house).

I've been messing around with running OSX Sierra on a virtual machine and it runs surprisingly well. I may go ahead and pick up a iMac, just don't know if I would go 21.5 vs 27, I'd definitely upgrade to the Fusion drive though.

I may have built her in 2012, but she is still running great! I thought about upgrading but I honestly don't know if I'll see much difference in performance..maybe in rendering video but in editing photos? Probably not much.

Windows is no longer based on DOS. It still sucks but no more DOS. The last DOS underlay was in the 90's, Windows ME. It then went to NT until Windows 7. Winblows 8-10 is a whole new pile of steaming poop. I recently built a Windows box out of old, new parts and threw Windows 10 on it for editing photo's.... I formated it last night and installed my Slackware 14.2 in it, back to what I know, stability, usability, reliability, update what I want to update. Back to normal. Windows 10 was the worst OS I have I ever witnessed, along with ME. Windows 2000 was their best I have used but it still sucked. My server is run off Slackware also, on 10+ year hardware.

I'm getting a i Mac eventually.

On a side note, I see Apple is extremely popular for photo editing. Any advantage it has over Lightroom for Windows ? I may add a secondary computer if it is that much better if it is worth the investment

Lightroom is Lightroom no matter what platform/operating system you use. I just prefer the mac because mac OS seems to run programs better and more efficiently than Windows computers.

I just upgraded from a Macbook Pro to a 27' iMac 2 days ago! I Would definitely go with the 27', I've owned both, and you get so much more room with the larger screen. I would personally recommend upgrading the hard drive to an SSD, and just editing pictures off of a large external hard drive. I had an iMac with the fusion drive and I wasnt impressed...so much I took it back.
