I don't and won't own any Apple equipment for personal reasons but it is fair to say that the Apple operating system is far more stable than Windows. It is based on Unix like the Linux operating systems. You need to remember that Windows was originally written as a graphical user interface for DOS which was really just a control program rather than a multi-user operating system like Unix. In time it got multitasking and networking but the goal was always to be as backward compatible as possible. So what we have today is a kluge that is quite sophisticated but still flawed because it was built on a DOS foundation.

I use Windows 10 in all my computers except for one running Linux. My web server, on the other hand, is run on Linux. I used to have to reboot my Windows web server regularly or at least restart IIS. The Linux server just runs and runs and runs circles around the old Windows server.

So is Apple worth it? I think so if stability is your primary concern. I think not if application software is the primary concern. Nothing wrong with Apple software but the application software options for windows are many times greater. If my business software would run on Linux I would use it exclusively but, alas, not the case.

Windows is no longer based on DOS. It still sucks but no more DOS. The last DOS underlay was in the 90's, Windows ME. It then went to NT until Windows 7. Winblows 8-10 is a whole new pile of steaming poop. I recently built a Windows box out of old, new parts and threw Windows 10 on it for editing photo's.... I formated it last night and installed my Slackware 14.2 in it, back to what I know, stability, usability, reliability, update what I want to update. Back to normal. Windows 10 was the worst OS I have I ever witnessed, along with ME. Windows 2000 was their best I have used but it still sucked. My server is run off Slackware also, on 10+ year hardware.

I'm getting a i Mac eventually.

I understand that Windows no longer runs DOS. But it was based on DOS as I said instead of being developed from the ground up as a true multitasking operating system. Win 2000 was pretty good. So was Win 7. 10, like 8 started off terribly but has improved somewhat with updates. I don't and won't buy anything Apple for personal reasons. I wish linux would move beyond being an enthusiast OS because it is much more stable than Windows. My web server runs Centos - very, very stable.
