Anyone heard of automated panorama heads?

Some head such as the Merlin/Orion can track image coordinates and stitch the photos together better later--even for out of focus areas. Is anyone familiar with this?

You can shoot photos without a tripod and the software shouldn't have any trouble stitching them. I never use a tripod, just make sure there's overlap...
