Anyone here buying a D800?

I'll be buying one. My D700 split in half on new years day and State Farm is giving me enough money to make the wait most likely worth it.

I'd say it is. He always has the information before I, or anyone I know, does. So, that makes him reliable to me. More reliable than me guessing. More reliable than most out there besides nikon itself. Nikon.com also has them listed as discontinued, btw.

If they ever announce the D800, that combined with the fact that it is now discontinued should make the price drop considerably. Assuming that the D800 will be it's replacement. If it's a 36MP studio cam then it may not factor in.

Yeah, a 36 MP is waaaay too much EVEN for a FF sensor. It’ll have noise like crazy. I’d rather stick to my 5DmII, alrhought I want to switch to the Nikon system for the D4

If they ever announce the D800 Feb 7th, my friend. , that combined with the fact that it is now discontinued should make the price drop considerably. Assuming that the D800 will be it's replacement. People will say there is no replacement until the D4 sensor is in a prosumer-sized body. They can come out with any number of cameras, and people will still say it's not a replacement (and it honestly doesn't look like one on paper), but I think it is the replacement. Hence the lack of a new naming system if it were a new line, or a D3x successor. . If it's a 36MP studio cam then it may not factor in. Bingo.

The D800 sensor is a scaled-up version of the D7k. As far as I have seen, the D7k doesn't have noise like crazy. It can only be better on an FX sensor. I don't think Nikon, king of ISO, would announce a camera that is worse off than its predecessor (D700) in terms of ISO.

Same here. And, honestly, I'm excited for that. I can only imagine this + Sigma 180/2.8 OS just announced + R1 kit = beautiful micro shots. The only thing I'm worried about is moiré in the eyes of little critters with the AA filter-less version. And, hopefully, that's the one I'll be picking up. I really hope they included L/M/S RAW modes. That would be lovely.

The time to flesh it out is before it hits the market. Once it hits, THEN you spend a week talking about it, you're so far down on the list of preorders that you don't have to worry about getting one this year anyway. Besides, it's all in good fun. Feel free to refrain from commenting instead of scoffing at it.
