Are there any low F-stop lens

Probably no tripod, but they would be still...

Well, if you're not using a tripod, you'll need to shoot at a shutter speed faster than 1 / your focal length. For example, if you're shooting at 18mm (the wide side of your kit lens), you'll want to shoot faster than 1/20 of a second. If your lens has IS, sometimes you can push this a little. When I shoot inside, I use flash... I also almost NEVER shoot at f/2.8 even though my lens will do that. It's never the sharpest aperture to shoot at, and the plane of focus is so small that it can be very difficult to get your focus where you want it, and even then, sometimes one eye will be in focus and the other one will be blurry. I like shooting at f/4-5.6.

Clarify!

I want to be able to get this shot. It was taken INDOORS, in a studio but infront of a glass window that was frosted... However, my NikonD3000 with the 18-55 kit lens at a shutter speed of 1/200 and ISO of 400 would not get down to below f/5.6 and it was way too dark. So another girl let me use her lens http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/300490-USA/Nikon_2147_17_55mm_f_2_8G_ED_IF_AF_S.htm

and I had it on f/2.8

boo I think Ill just have to wait.

I LOVED that lens!

You could have uped your ISO to 800, do you have enough money for one of these [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-50Mm-Nikkor-Manual-Focus/dp/B0000BVDZC]Nikon 50Mm F1.4 Nikkor Lens A Manual Focus: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo[/ame] it will shoot in lower light than the lens you borrowed, all you have to do to zoom with it is move forwards and backwards

Or you can shoot at lower shutter speed with a little bump on ISO.

f/2.8 vs f/5.6 => 2 stops diff.

1/50, iso400, f/5.6 same EV as 1/200, iso400, f/2.8

So bump the iso up a little from 400, you should be able to use a little faster shutter speed than 1/50 to avoid camera shake (if focal length set at 55mm).

If you're determined to get an f/2.8 lens, get this:
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-AF17-50mm-Aspherical-Nikon-D-Cameras/dp/B000EXV0QQ]Amazon.com: Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens with hood for Nikon-D DSLR Cameras: Camera & Photo[/ame]

I have the canon mount of this lens, and it almost never comes off of the camera.

I *really* don't mind much for 2.8 but I just want something I can use in low light...

I tried upping to 800 ISO and bumping down my shutter speed, but my kit lens and the low light just could not get the shot....

This was the shot I took with her lens and for next time I shoot, I'd like to have my own...

There was no flash with this picture. I love it!

No offence, but to me it looks like that shot is not focused... Looks like the plane of focus is well in front of where it should be. That's the downside of using wide apertures. The easy solution is to use a flash.

yes I agree it looks blurry there too, but printed out it is as crisp as crisp could be!

gah, I'm so confused, so what affordable lens is a good one for low light?

lol man it is really complex! I'm confusing myself to high hell.

:(

:lmao:

ok new plan... how can I sneak 1000 dollars on the credit card without my husband noticing?
