art gallery?

So I went to get one of my pictures framed and get the matting and stuff for it and the person working there liked what I had and gave me the number of some art gallery for me to call them and show them a portfolio or whatever. I'm just curious how these gallery places work. Like do I pay them for letting me put pics up? Do they pay me? or is it just free so other people can see what I got? Sorry if its kind of a dumb question, just curious how these things work.

Depends on the gallery. Generally you hang your work and split the commission. Sounds like a good opportunity. Talk with the gallery.
