Asked to do another wedding :/ Help

Somehow in this thread, the Don Schiltz song (as recorded by Kenny Rogers) seems appropriate:
"You got to know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em,
Know when to walk away, know when to run."

Eventer, experience is a good thing to want, but you DO have a choice in how you get it. You're underequiped, underprepared (what's your backup if something fails?), and while I find your energy and enthusiasm very commendable, you also have to learn that there are "opportunities" that need to be passed up. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. It doesn't take much for things to go bad quickly. "Free" can get very expensive to you and your reputation if the big day doesn't go well. This is not to sound negative, but you do have to have a realistic assessment of your capabilities and the risks involved.

Whats your budget?

I typed Lens Rental New Zealand into google and got 6,820,000 results. I have a feeling you may not have looked too hard about finding a place to rent lenses.

Seriously? This comment makes you sound ignorant and stupid, most people are one or the other very rarely both. Do you know How big NZ is?
Yep, it's about a third the size of Texas.
Yeah and the population is about the amount of people crossing a street in china

Honestly, I can't, for the life of me, figure out why I tried to condense years of experience, hundreds of books, thousands of photographs, a mentorship, and thousands of hours practicing into a single thread. I guess I just hoped you weren't the guy who just wanted to be spoon fed information about an event he agreed to shoot and was in over his head. I give up. Like I said in my first post, I knew I was going to regret this.

You really are something, a real genuine......ugh, something. I have been on this Websites Forums for five minutes and this is the Third thread where I have witnessed you posting like a complete pompous douche. I guess you were never spoon fed anything? Nervous and did not know what to do?....God damn. You post in a manner that is both as I said before, condescending and arrogant.

I am definitely a real, genuine something. I'm also very helpful and honest. My first few posts in this thread were nothing but helpful. I posted the same links that I used when I was learning. I also suggested settings, techniques, and equipment, all in a very nice way.

It wasn't until the OP showed that he had no interest in actually searching for the info or looking at the link I provided that I expressed my frustration.

The new, me-me-me, I want it now, I want it now, and I shouldn't have to put forth any effort, give it to me now, attitude that is so prevalent in just about every "I just bought a camera and booked my first wedding, what settings should I use and do I need a flash" thread gets old after a while.

None of the information, including my posts, is new, cutting edge, never before shared info. All of it could have been obtained by a simple google search or using this forums search function. And if you don't like my posts, I'm sure a quick forum search will show you how to use the ignore feature. ;)
Yes and I did thank you for your genuinely helpful comment and links, you are obviously far more knowledgable and talented than me - Im not being sarcastic either. 99% of people on here would be more pro than me no doubt. But I'm willing to learn - I did look at the link by the way but I'm at work and I have to cross of my pages if someone comes by and see im doing something Im not ment to be

no not me at all - I did not jump in and book a wedding with new gear I dont know how to use, I was asked by someone I know, and at this stage im going to turn it down, I would like to be able to attend with another actual wedding photographer and leearn somthing without having the stress of an entire wedding in my shoulders. Thats my plan at this stage. As I dont feel up to shooting a wedding by myself. As someone stated "Im too inexperianced an under-equipped" or someting along those lines..

And I genuinely wished you good luck. Hopefully, you get a flash and get some time to practice with it, and hopefully, you will check out that link when you have more time.

I had considered it a closed matter until I was told that I was ignorant, stupid, condescending, arrogant, and a dousche. Then you proceded to tell us how much you loved what that person had to say.

By the way, how much advice has that guy given you on how to shoot this upcoming wedding?

Yes you were very hepful until you basically stated I was in competant of learning and a waste of your time with this comment you made...

That comment made you sound like a bit of a douche? This is a beginners forum as somewhere clearly stated before, what do you expect?

That guy has been emailing me through TPF with advice

hey being spoon fed info is good at least his taking it in and trying to learn. Its way better than trying to teach someone who thinks they are already good. Isn't that what a teacher does. No good teacher just says "go read the book". If you believe he is unable to learn leave it at that. Just don't degrade a person. How do you think photographers were taught before books. Hell how do you think everyone was taught before books became common. By asking questions and being shown what to do. If you think about it before books we were all spoon fed info.

I hope they turn out better than your horse shots, or you will have an unhappy customer
Ouch - What are you basing that on? Hopefully not the blog in my signiture all those photos are very old.

From the ones you posted on here, when i was trying to help you

Nikon Digital D 90 12.3 MEGAPIXEL WITH BATTERY & CHARGER (SD CARD ) DIGITAL SLR INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERA - KEH.com = d90 for $645+

Nikon Autofocus 50 F1.4 D (52) WITH CAPS 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS STANDARD ANGLE LENS - KEH.com = 50mm f1.4 for $286+

2183G Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - Gray Market = 35mm f1.8g for $200+

Nikon Autofocus 85 F1.4 D INTERNAL FOCUS (77) FILTER RING DAMAGE 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS TELEPHOTO LENS - KEH.com = 85mm f1.4 for $919+

I got my sb600's at best buy for $219, maybe two of those or sb800's which you can find used for around $350-400 each. I can't believe adoram is selling refurbished sb600's for $280!!!

That puts you right near 3k. You could, of course, find better deals or different brands/lens for cheaper(85 f1.8 would save you $500 and 50 f1.8 would save you $200 which could go towards a 135 f2 dc or a wider lens than the 35mm or even a second d90 for less lens swapping)

i posted the d90 instead of the d7000 because you'll want to upgrade to full frame camera in the future so no reason for the extra cash on the body now.

Hey thanks for this! yay for helpful people! Prices arnt too much different in New Zealand. Hmm will have to toss up between the D90 and the D7000, depending on how much i want to spend etc I spose I just have a play with a few different cameras and see what i like best,
Yeah I think will save a bit of money and get the 50 1.8 instead of 1.4 and its quite a bit more expensive for not alot.
I can pick up a sb800 for around $400 - $600 NZ dollars

Any opinions of the new Sony A55? i heard about and it sound neat but, look pretty ugly lol
