Last night my local camera club showed an hour long PBS film about Joel Sartore, a Nat Geo photographer. The film, At Close Range with National Geographic, was very illuminating about the relatively difficult life of a Nat Geo photographer and the burdens it places on family. I recommend it for anyone.
There was a statement by one of the Nat Geo editors that really struck home. She said that Joel's pictures weren't the Audubon style, clean and neat and posed correctly, each of his pictures had something special, something about the subject interacting with their environment that made the image memorable.
The entire show was a treat and his pictures were wonderful.
Here's a promo clip.
