I prefer the color because it produces better texture and mood. Both are well done and prove a point that a well executed photo can look good in either presentation.

Definitely B&W, but in either case I'd get rid of that post in the foreground, either by cloning or cropping.

The color would work better if you darkened the mid-tones a bit, maybe around 100 or so (out of 255), which would give you more contrast and more saturation.
