This is my husband, and i was experimenting a bit last night... it's not quite what i had in mind, but tell me what you think anyway.

It's kinda, I donno, washed out maybe. Maybe just not enough contrast for my taste.

There seems to be an overall greyness to it...it's seems a bit dark, maybe b/c of the black shirt and black background. Do you have it in color???

He's disappearing into the background! It would look nice if his hair and shirt weren't blending in to the background.

The pose, composition and main light are all great. As mentioned, his hair & shirt are getting lost in the background. A background light and/or a hairlight kicker would help to set him apart.

Focus isn't good either... but I agree with the above comments about contrast... the flash also causing some poor reflections, which are probably more noticable on a bigger version, on the earing and ring...

here's the color version...

the problem i'm having is my flash giving too much light, so i covered it a little for these. I'm still not happy with my whole lighting situation though.

I think it'd improve if you lowered the camera. Looking up at your subject can add importance.
