Her cheeks are flushed and ear is awfully red. Looks like she may have a fever..

?
Can everyone just stop making rude remarks like that?
Why couldn't you just say I think you saturated the reds too much?
And you didn't even answer the question

These are things people notice when they first look at a photo. My first thoughts were. WTF is up with her ear, and it looks like her mouth is dirty. THEY DISTRACT FROM THE IMAGE AND DON'T COMPLETE THE MESSAGE YOU INTENDED TO CONVEY WITH THE PHOTO. It also seems that she did answer the question because you asked "What else do you think" so, yeah, the question was answered, you just didn't like what was said... Again... Seems to be a reoccurring theme with your posts...

i think its a great picture, i would bring down the red only because it draws me to it instead of seeing the great stare from the child. otherwise it seems like a great composition. everything seems fine shouldnt need a crop just the strong red on the ear is distracting. i might take a couple pixels off the top but thats just me.

Again!

Again is right! here you take me saying the food on her mouth is distracting as me saying you are a bad parent... i don't know you, i don't want to know you, i never said you were a bad parent, i said the FOOD ON HER MOUTH IS DISTRACTING.

Sheesh, is this broad for real?

There was NOTHING rude about Malone's comment; they were factual observations and a reasonable supposition based on the image you posted and the question, "what else do you think?". I want to believe that you genuinely want to improve your skills, and assuming that to be the case, you HAVE to develop a thicker skin. This is a forum for photographers, NOT a mutual admiration forum. When you post an image, it will be commented on. You're not going to improve if all people say is "Wonderful image". While you may not agree with, or like the comments, 99.9% of the time, they are meant to help you improve.

With respect to the image posted, I agree with the others, the flushed cheek and ear as well as the appearance of food residue or mucus around her mouth really detract from the image. Even though this is your own child, treat every shot as if it were a paying gig for a client you'd only met once. Take the time to wash her face, ensure her clothes are clean and straight, hair brushed, etc. On the plus side, you've nailed the focus and the background while busier than I would normally prefer is interesting.

I actually cry everytime I come on this site. **** thats embarrassing...

Yeah, if you can't take some people you don't even know telling you that you need work on your photos without crying i honestly don't know what else to say...

Lets just say I have sensitivity issues and leave it at that? lol
Can I get away with healing the residue off?
I think I may take another photo tonight with more preparation and see how it goes.
Jesus. I am over-sensitive. I need to get the hell over it and learn.

I would try a reshoot with a clean mouth ,and softer, more even lighting on the face. The light dropped a bit towards the back/bottom right of the shot i believe. When i think baby i think soft and quiet, unless it's crying in the shot then maybe loud tones and harsher lighting would be more appropriate to give the viewer a sense of what the baby is expressing. I don't exactly recall how harsh/uneven the lighting was since the original photo was taken down...

Why? You've got a live-in model. Use her to full advantage!

That's the idea, BUT I would leave it alone for tonight. Do some research and reading on posing and portraiture, sleep on it, and start fresh tomorrow!
