Trying to increase my battery life, so I bought a battery grip that holds 2 batteries. Unfortunately, when 1 battery drains, the other battery does not kick in. But if I slide the batteries out and put back in, then the camera does recognize and use the second battery. I've tried the batteries in both locations. The batteries are different in brand and amperage (1030 mAh vs 1500 mAh). Can that explain it?

The other option is an EH-5a AC Power Adapter EN-EL14 Dummy Battery EP-5A DC Coupler Kit. Are they safe to use? I see Nikon has 1 for sale so I suppose it is ok. I was going to get the Neewer 1 as it is 20% the cost of the Nikon.

Thanks.

(Nikon D5600)

My guess is you've got a 3rd-party grip.

It's a Neweer. I don't think Nikon doesn't sell 1. I should add that when the 2 batteries are in, the non-Nikon battery is never used. If I take the Nikon 1 out, the non-Nikon does work. Not sure if I should buy another Nikon battery unless it's pretty clear that that's the issue. Just weird that 1 works alone.

Exchange it where you bought it.
