Alright. First let me explain that this post is being made under the influence of several PBR Silos, Chilled Patron, and extreme boredom...... as were the images.

I configured a box out of dollarstore foamboard and construction paper, grabbed a mousetrap and an egg, and went to town. Basically, these were taken in a dark room, using a 10 second shutter speed, and hand timing the drop of the egg to the flash of a SB-600 set to 1/32 power. These pics were the result. I'm pretty happy with them for now, but am in no way sober enough to put them through PP to fix the background. That might happen tomorrow. Or next week. Or never.

C&C is encouraged. I would love some advice since this is CERTAINLY not the last time I'm doing this.

The last one is my favorite.

I suppose the ten second shutterspeed is your inner drunk talking?

Cool shots!

I like 'em. Did you just drop the egg onto the set mousetrap?

Thanks! Yep. That's about the long and short of it.

Inner drunk? I don't know what yer [hic] talking about. [hic].

10 seconds was enough time for me to open the shutter in a dark room, fumble my drunk ass around to the SB-600 and egg, get into position, drop the egg and hope I hit the button on the flash at the same moment the egg hit the mouse trap.

The time was really kind of irrelevent since the only light source was the strobe.

Thanks!

To make things easier you could get a rig (maybe someone else can help you find this) that triggers the shutter with sound. As soon as it detects the egg hitting the trap it would trigger your shutter and flash. Cool shots by the way...

Definitely in the cards..... But both Natinal camera and Radio Shack were closed........ And I was in no condition to drive. luckily enough, I only did three shots. I scored three for three on the timing. I should probably buy a lottery ticket, eh?

I'm seriously considering picking up the Hi Viz (sp?) sound triggers. They look uber cool. Here is the thread that inspired me to do the shots, and it has a link to a pretty cool sound trigger as well.

Very cool idea!

I tend to edit pictures when buzze up. This way I do not unintentionally damage my camera

Ha! What a great idea! And it looks like it was fun too =P I also like the last one the best =)

Very cool! Like you said, #3 is the best! Thanks for explaining your process, it gives me ideas:D

What are you planing to feed your mouse trap with next time you have too long of a chat with the bottle?

Interesting technique with the long shutter speed and using flash to freeze the action. Never even thought of that. Thanks.

Hmm...who said being drunk delays your reaction time.

or

Think about how early you'd have hit the flash if you were sober.
