What's new

Beer+Eggs+Mousetraps+Experiments in High speed photos = This.

And now for a bit of thread Necromancy! WooHoo!!!

I set up the egg shoot again, but this time I fixed a few of the issues from the first attempt. All things considered, I'm pretty happy with this one.

Please don't be shy with the C&C. I find it to be very helpful.

I will commision my private artist to render another Smithsonian caliber charcoal drawing of the setup. It will be up shortly.

Oh okay cool! So did you fire the flash with remote or just by hand manually?

Manually. I haven't gotten off my duff and bought a sound activated trigger yet. Besides, I've been having a lot of fun doing it all by hand. With the sound trigger it seems like it would be more of a "process" :meh: than a PROCESS!!! :D

If that makes sense.

Its also not that hard. push the button as soon as you hear the "snap" and you're bound to get an image of a mess. Its a timing issue for sure, but as long as your hand is on the flash, and you finger is on the button while you're dropping the egg, its very do-able. The process is simply: lights off, shutter, drop, splat, flash, shutter, lights on. Where I have this set up, I can do all of these things without moving my feet.

That's impressive so you're doing this in a pitch dark room? As soon as you hear the splat you hit your flash button and then turn the light on, clean the mess and go at er again?

The room doesn't have to be PITCH black..... There was a tiny amount of ambient light so I didn't kill myself, but not enough to affect exposure...... but yes, that in essence is the long and short of it. Although, I didn't have to set this one up twice. Believe it or not, it was a one shot deal. :D

The majority of the time for me was spent in adjusting for exposure, placement of the trap and focus. The rest only took seconds.

Wow that's very impressive, i'd love to try something like this it's just the clean up would suck and I would have to construct this device lol. Very tempted to try this out thanks so much for the drawing and the explanation of your structure.

Box = 4 sheets of foamboard - $1 each
Construction paper - 2 sheets - $.50 each

No cutting or anything, just taped them together at the edges with packing tape.

I cut a hole in the top using a steak knife, and laid down a long piece of construction paper in the back.

The whole kit and kaboodle cost $6, was built in less than 4 minutes, and is reusable. For cleanup, just pull the piece of paper out with the mess on it and throw it away. If any gets on the foamboard (and not much does) wipe it off with a paper towel.

Easy Peasy.

This was anything but a professional setup.

In regards to clean up, what if you placed a piece of glass as the bottom over your white foamboard? It may give the light a new look and also ease in clean up. Just an idea.

And one that will more than likely be used. Thanks!
