I've always loved the idea of a good time-lapse. I really want to start easy, with clouds...

Is there a good time I should consider in between shots? Also, for lapses that have longer times between exposures, how can I make sure I am always shooting from the same position/angle? I feel like any good time-lapse avoids this problem but I'm not sure how.

Well, to get the same vantage point in each frame, the easy answer is to put your camera on a tripod, and leave it alone. As for the time frame, i think it would be based on how fast the items are moving. Clouds move differently, and with fast clounds i would try between 1 and 10 seconds. On Slow moving days, maybe up to 5 minute intervals.

I have some of a train, taken at 6.5 FPS. Just have to experiment and see what works for you.

Good luck and happy shooting

Heavy tripod, weight it or stake it down... cable release, or wireless remote so you don't touch the camera. I have a timer from eBay that will do intervals, nice for set it and sit with a cool beverage, and watch.

What he said, depends on how fast the object is moving. You said clouds. Some move fast, some slow, it depends. I did some clouds at night with the stars and 10 seconds worked out fine.

Before the next question comes up, no you don't need to play back at 30 fps to get nice motion. You might want to shoot manual to avoid light and dark flashing because of changes in lighting, which the camera would adjust to, but you don't want that.

Awesome. Seems pretty simple. Thanks for all the help. Hopefully now I'll have a good time-lapse on the first try. Unfortunately, I do not have a cable or remote yet... So I'll just have to press the shutter release on the camera... Only looking to experiment and have fun right now, so it's no biggie.
