Beginner - Advise please

Hi, I have just started to get intrested in photography and these are a couple of shots i have taken.
Any advise on how i can improve on them would be appriciated!

I am a huge fan of B&W, But I think in this case I'd prefer to see the color. Especially in the child's eyes...
