Beginner Needs Help with 1st Real Camera Purchase.

Between the 30D and D80, which would allow me to print larger pictures? I have been searching online for a chart, but they all disagree as to what is an acceptable image dpi. Currently, I assume the canons in the $2-3k price range would give me larger pictures, but that could change in a few years. I would like to make some gifts out of some of my better shots and maybe put them in with some of my paintings at a local art shows for sale.
