Beginner photographer

Hi all. I am interested in picking up photography, mainly as a hobby and maybe more further down the line. I have no official experience in the industry and have never taken any classes or anything like that, basically I have little to no knowledge of photography. For those of you that can help what are some things I should focus on learning about to begin developing skills as a photographer. I have a Nikon D3400 if that helps... If you haven't already done so, a great way to learn your D3400 is to watch this video on how to set it up:

Aside from that, and as already mentioned, there are tons and tons of videos on Youtube that can help you learn photography. Or, if you're in a city, there may be local photographers giving courses on how to start out, it usually costs a bit, but could help you getting started.

In addition to what everyone else has said
Get into the habit #when safe# of looking at things around you and thinking how it would look as a photo
A pretty woman with the sun behind her giving her a halo.
The angle and interplay of light and reflection
A man standing feeding the birds, think about how you would take the images
The more you get into the habit of doing this the more you will find that when you get the camera you are already planning the shot before you have got the camera switched on
