Beginner photos, looking for critique.

The second set is much better than the first set, but you still have some exposure issues: 2 & 3 are too bright, 4 is too dark. #1 is about right. And actually I like what you've done with the slower shutter speed. Actually, I was going to suggest that #1 from your FIRST set -- the beach -- could actually turn out to be a really great picture if you used a very long exposure (e.g., 30 sec or more) to level the waves. You can do this with something called a neutral density filter (perhaps you already know this). I think that first #1 has real potential!
 
I have no idea what a neutral density filter is but I will definitely look into it. I took a bunch of pictures today at a local skateboard event and currently looking through them. Thanks for the help everyone!
 
Those look like something I can really use and they can help me. Still kind of stuck on the levels they come in. Not sure what would be a good one to get.
