Beginner Photo's Using Cell Phone Camera

Heck... pin hole + shoebox is certainly good enough to spark an interest.

That is what got me interested. 7th grade technology class. We shot the front of our school. With the pinhole/shoebox the exposure is pretty long so we ran across the "camera" and had a bunch of ghosts running around our school. Pretty fun.

Snapshot?
Nah, If I remember correctly the "shutter speed" was somewhere around 30 seconds so actually it was the exact opposite of a snapshot.

You seem to be having A LOT of trouble with this concept...

But your photo was totally dependent on the timing of your subjects running through the frame, so based on one of your definitions, it was a snapshot. Or are you using one of your other definitions?

It was not dependent on the timing of us running. As you finished your photo you would then just walk or run around the front of the school with your friends. It didn't matter how fast, how slow, or when you moved. We were not actually supposed to do that. We were supposed to take a picture of the school. We carefully aligned our shots, and with an electronic timer, removed and replaced an index card shutter (or whatever we used). As I said, the "shutter speed" was somewhere around 30 seconds. Therefore, all aspects of the shot were carefully planned.

Nope. If you would have stood in front of the camera instead of running, then you would have had a picture of yourself instead of ghost trails. It was totally dependent on the timing of your subjects. Snapshot.

Wrong. As I said, the plan was to take a shot of the school. Anything that happened in the shot was not in our control. The image of the school was a photograph. If my intent was to take an image of people ghosting through the frame then yes, that would be a snapshot.

That would be like taking a picture of a landscape after setting up the shot for half an hour waiting for the right light. A bird then flies through the frame in the distance and you call it a snapshot since the shot depended on the timing of the bird. AKA - non sequitur

Well if you intend to take a picture of a goalie swatting a ball, then it's not a snapshot? Or is just anything you make up to justify that you're not taking a snapshot counts as not a snapshot for whatever definition you're using?

Face it. It was a snapshot.

No, that would still be a snapshot. If you hung the goalie in mid air and also hung the ball in front of him and then took the picture, that is a photograph. You are obviously having a very hard time with this. At this point I would suggest you just stop trying.

So you hung people infront of your school.

For god sake man! Pick a definition and stick too it.

I actually laughed when I read this (Not with you).

Why haven't you commented on my criticisms of your dog?

And you know, it's more than ok for you guys to rag on a pretentious bag of ****, but OP clearly said, "I can't afford a decent camera currently", so give him a break and play nice.

There's my karma point for the month.

I'm going to have to go ahead and give the Village Idiot a thumbs up on this post.

Amazingly enough it's the same ones ragging on new members.
Over and over again.......the same pompous horses _____es.
Then they turn right around and pretend like they didn't do anything and how they were trying to be helpful.

Reminds me of a scene from Leave it to Beaver where Eddie Hascal steals Mrs. Cleavers purse and then cunningly lies his way out of it with an acting job deserving of an Emmy award.

But hey.......it goes without saying that these guys were never new to photography.
They were never beginners. From day one they were professionals.

Now I'll wait around for some sophomoric retaliation from the crew, BECAUSE THE TRUTH HURTS.

I didn't know what teabagging was until I slipped and some nuts fell in my mouth...

Because I posted a snapshot from my archives of photos that has no artistic merit what-so-ever. Oh wait, the dog was sitting still, so it wasn't based on the movement of the subject. It must be a work of art!

I didn't give you permission to speak!

I didn't ask for your permission.
Now why don't you and I meet for a beer so I can watch you pee down your leg.

VI and Poly, this isn't your thread and this isn't about your dispute on each other's definition of what is a snapshot or not. That thread once was, and that thread got locked. Don't make use of someone else's thread to continue! Take it to PM, if you feel the need to further discuss this.
