I have the canon r5 mark i and mark ii. I’m only concerned with low light performance/dynamic range (think northern lights and nightscapes). I’m 2nd guessing the mark ii and think the r1 may perform better. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Questions of low light performance are highly subjective.

Low light is my world. Having quite a variety of >10 yr old cameras and many recent cameras, my subjective take is that recent cameras are really great in low light such that worrying about it is just a tempest in a teapot.

Of course, teapot hurricanes are a popular online staple. FWIW, I shoot raw+jpeg and would never judge a camera by its SOOC output.

Of my Canons, the 5D2 and 5Dsr are simply NOT low light cameras, but the R zero definitely loves low light. I can set whatever ISO gives me the settings I want with little to no concern about how high Ive dialed it.
