This image was taken in the Big Empty. The island mountain range in the background is named The Crazies. It is so named because Indians attacked a family heading west in a Conestoga wagon killing all members of the family except the wife. The woman, who became insane because of the attack & death of her family, remained in the area at the base of the mountain range which was originally named The Crazy Woman Mountains and eventually shortened to The Crazies.
