Black and White Photo to Color

Well, I'm trying to teach a friend how to recolor a black and white photo in Photoshop CS2 and he's not getting it. Is there an easier, less time-consuming way to do this? He has about 300 photos to do and it would take him a month to do them all. I'm looking for a piece of software that is more intuitive than Photoshop and less time-consuming that Recolor or BlackMagic. I'm not familiar with any other software, but if you have any suggestions, I would truly appreciate it.

The learning curve is pretty steep with Photoshop...but he need not learn it all...just the basics should be enough. Maybe Photoshop Elements would be a better option, as it's a little more user friendly.

Also, what about input device...I use a Wacom pen & tablet for my photo editing...and now I can't imagine doing any major editing with just a mouse. A tablet may speed up work like this, a great deal.
