I'm still figuring out the blog thing myself. I think if you add tags to your blog, post links to it everywhere, and ask everyone you know to follow you, you'll pick up more traffic.

Me, I think I'm still just too shy to advertise myself, but hey, I'll follow you if you follow me. ;)

yea i watched some webcast friday about photography marketing, and it intrigued me to try this blog idea. and im now following you!! haha

I do know that blogging can be a valuable tool for advertising and broadcasting your photography/business, for free. It helps if you can keep your blogging interesting (I'm not directing that at you! I'm just saying) so that viewers keep coming back, but not all of us can do that (like me!) So Facebook and Myspace are awesome as well, just try to have a dedicated page for your photography.

Btw, we just killed 3 birds w/one stone - you got more traffic, I got over my shyness and we're each being followed. Sweet.

Yes! we're being productive!

i just need to even remember to post stuff, and i dont really have a business... yet. but i figured getting some work out there is always a plus

I use Posterous, it's so flexible and posts to my Flickr account (and many others). I figure I'm posting pics anyway, might as well spread it out as much as possible - takes no additional effort on my part.

Blogs, at the heart, are no different than any other kind of publishing. And in publishing, 'Content is King'. The first step to having a good blog is having something worth sharing. The whole blog phenomenon has turned into this thing that all pro photographers must have blogs, and therefore all people who want to be protogs must have blogs, and then all people who take photos and have anything to say must have blogs. For the most part, it's just more people generating more noise. But the bottom line, is that unless you really have something meaningful and unique the contribute to the blogosphere, then there's not really a ton of sense in throwing something out there just for the sake of having a blog. I think too many photographers, especially ones that maybe intend to go pro, feel like the must have a blog, even if they don't really have great work to show yet or have something to say. Then it just ends up being this pointless blog, with random photos from this or that, and it doesn't do anyone much good, especially the aspiring protog. I think one of the best way to label yourself as an inexperienced newb/wanna be pro is to start putting all you stuff out there long before it's of professional quality. You don't really want people seeing all that. Once you've put yourself out there as that guy who takes amateur looking photos, it's a lot harder to get people to take seriously as that guy who now wants to be pro, even if your images are considerably better. Don't feel the need to have a blog just for the sake of having one. A blog is a powerful marketing tool, but only when you have something to market.

I started my blog so I had a place to post my project 365 and just talk about my day to day.

Though I agree with GeneralBenson when it's said that a blog is a powerful marketing tool when you have something to market, but I disagree when it is said that making one before your work is pro level labels you as a newb. In this day and age it is far too easy to wipe blogs and photodumps clear and start fresh, especially if you're just starting out and the follower base is minor.

FWIW, I'm now following you, OP.

The ONLY way you're going to get any "traffic" is if you have your own domain and having your blog as part of your domain. Right now your using Blogger, not your own domain.

I use tumblr because it's so easy to update. However i have my subdomain linked to it.

blog.cameronrad.com

I like tumblr too. One of the issues with these blogs is that I can't follow people on wordpress and other sites like that without setting up my own. :grumpy:

Mine: Woke up this morning...

I'm only an amateur but it's helped put me in touch with a few local bands who have wanted some photos done cheaply. It's all I really have time for around my own work, but it's all helping me improve.

what

Don't really have constructive posts, just photos.

I do the 'just photos' thing too. I use wordpress; it's free and it's worked pretty well for me so far. They have some pretty nifty 'just photos' blogging themes, too. ;-)

Check out tumblr. I started a blog on there just for my photography and my pictures get reblogged all the time by other people. A few pictures have been reblogged hundreds of times. The trick to having your pictures spread though is tagging each one with descriptions of the picture, that way your picture will be suggested to other members.
