Very nice, but the light spot in the lower left keeps drawing my eye. Otherwise, I like it.

If the goal was to create a dark and foreboding feeling, I think you succeeded brilliantly.

Thanks for the feedback, I had a quick rework to lighten the image as suggested and I think it has helped it:

Well, it's perhaps a prettier picture, but it loses some emotional reaction for me. Part of the interest in the original dark version, was the darkness of the two trianglular areas on either side, with barely visible gnarly branches or roots reaching out of the darkness. This created a feeling of tension and suspense, as branches gave a feeling of "wildness" and the darkness behind them allowed me to imagine all kinds of dangerous things lurking there, unseen. The water flow creates a visual path that has to get past the chokepoint (the meeting of the apexes of the two triangles) to get to the sea beyond. The darkness of the clouds contributed to this sense of foreboding tension. Does that explanation of the emotion felt make sense to you?
