So I just picked up my D5100 yesterday and been trying to get a feel for it and everything. Let me first say, I have 0 experience with photography. I've used a P&S my whole life and this is my first real camera. I'm registered to take a full line of photography and editing classes, first one starting on Tuesday but I figured maybe I can get a idea where I stand at the very beginning.

The 3 shots you posted looks a bit out of focus, and perhaps a little noisy? What was your ISO set at?
Compositionally, you'll get there. Rome wasn't built in a day Watch for background distractions/chaos.
