What went wrong with these? I had autofocus on - and considering the Canon 90 can easily auto focus on birds it should be ok with stationary plants.
However it doesn't look quite goodright, I had aperture f 10

They don't look too bad. Maybe the shutter speeds of 1/100 and 1/125 were a bit slow if there was any kind of breeze movement in the bushes.

I love the smell of broom at this time of year, almost has a coconut fragrance to it.

Thanks for that - sadly it is really really rubbish for insect pollinators.

Oh, is it? I didn't know that. Maybe that's why I've never got much insect pic from them😁. Sure I've seen assassin bugs and shield bugs on them tho.

It looks to me like the foreground (closest object) is what the AF is hitting. The tree leaves at the top of the first shot, and the grass in front of the broom, in the second. I don't know Canons but check your AF point and settings.

The slow shutter speed may be once culprit. Any amount of movement will show up. What is your AF setting? I usually keep my 90D on either spot point AF or single point AF, so that I know that I'm focusing on my intended target. That works most of the time.
