buying used lenses

i'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i looked around and couldn't see a for sure right place. has anyone ever bought used lenses from amazon.com vendors? i see what look like good deals on there, but i am skeptical and afraid i will be scammed. advice please. thanks.

It seems rare that I buy something brand spankin' new anymore. there are SO MANY great deals to be had used, especially when folks stand by their product, that buying used is really a non issue.

I have always bought used lenses. I had a problem once in ebay, the picture and description said it was a canon 18-55 IS and I received the non-IS. It was no return, so I lose half my money. From that time I always make sure I see exactly what I'm getting and ask any question if not sure.

Got 4 lenses I use at the moment, three of them used.
One bought on eBay and 2 on Kijiji.
Only my 50mm prime was bought new.
I am very happy with all 3 used lenses, I got perfect lenses for less then half its retail value.

How can you go wrong with that ?

Sorry never bought any photography equipment on Amazon.

I've bought photographic gear several times from a variety of websites and vendors.

There are two levels on Amazon: The first is "fulfilled by Amazon", and the second is; third-party vendors listed on Amazon.

Amazon has a very good reputation of holding each vendor to good service.

Yep my first choice has always been Craigslist as get to see and tryout first before the cash. But eBay as long as they have a lot of positive feedback wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a used anything.

There are also many private sellers of used gear on Amazon.com.

I have bought camera gear from several private sellers. No doubt, experience plays a part in recognizing which deals to pass up.

+2 yeah be sure the users have positive feedback, also if you buy on ebay i suggest you reading the details of the item on the auction and if you have any questions just go ahead and keep asking them, the worst they can do is not respond.

I have bought and sold many thousands of dollars in used lenses on eBay but paypal can be problematic for some people due to their policies. The problem with craigslist is people don't delete posts for used stuff for sale on there and you could be sitting around waiting for a response that never comes. Amazon.com is a great market and super valuable for user reviews.

I've bought one lens off fleabay, a set of Nd filters and some other bits and bobs. Up till now my experience has been good,but look at the sellers feedback and carefully go through the description and photos and you should be fine
