My friends and I all got pretty shmammered the other night and put on wigs and hats just to have fun. Needless to say, I caught my friend having an Amy Winehouse moment.

Thing is when you selectively colour something in a photo you make the single coloured part the focus of the photo itself. You make it stand out greatly against the black and white of the remaining photo and as such the coloured part draws the viewers attention. If you don't mean it to be the focus of the photo you shouldn't colour it separate from the rest.

I appreciate the insight. Would you suggest it just to be plan black and white or something in color?

Selective colour is a technique that can work very well, in about 0.001% of the images to which it is applied. Look at the image, decide what is the main focal point, and then decide if selective colour will enhance it. In this case, I don't see anything that would be enhanced by colouring, and would suggest leaving the image either full colour or monochrome.

I would go FULL-color on this. She does sort of have a Winehouse-esque thing going on, but she looks a bit too proper to really fulfill the maximum Amy Winehouse effect, plus her eye makeup is pretty conventional compared to Amy's outlandishly over-the-top style. And as Designer said, she needs to be sneering...but overall, yeah, this gal has a sort of A-W type-a-thing goin' on...might be fun to re-shoot this with the appropriate over-the-top eye makeup and a much more attitudinal attitude...
