Hi All!
Here's a couple of shots from the daytime...I'm a night owl so I can't wait for the D7000. You have no idea the number of shots I missed cuz the D40 wouldn't deliver :(
So here's some of the few shots I got:
1- My first Self-portrait...Ghetto style

This one was a bit tricky...I was using a LED headlamp with one hand and using the 2s timer. I know I should of shaved hehe

2- Flashlight Singer

the first image, is beautifully detailed and great compositioned.

The second picture is just to edited, the colors are way to high and its a bit unreal, on the last picture try to put the leves more down or more up you choose the effect. But yes its a bit fake.

But lovely pictures, did you use any other lighting on the first picture? how did you get it so detailed?

I like that you are experimenting with light in #1. Add a light on the background or point one toward the back of your head to get some separation and/or depth and this image instantly becomes much better.

#2 doesn't have anything special... contrast is too high and it looks like a pop-up flash was used which is generally not attractive when it's the only light source on the subject.

Leaving work so out of time, but I think the "My shrubbery is eating me but I'm thinking about something else" pic is pretty humorous. :)

Yeah I'm glad you caught on it...it was mostly a funny moment that I had to catch, but I had some fun in photoshop with it...
I'll post the originals in a short while...

Love your pictures on flickr..

What your saying about #1 is not right it's beautiful that it is blacked out it could need more blacking out actually! I disagree.

As for the lighting used in the 1st picture, I only used a 1watt LED found on high end headlamp...and manual focus, and lots of fiddling around...add to that a 30% unsharp mask in PS

I so need that shirt in #2.......lol What a throw back!!

Opinions may vary, but I think you'll find the consensus to fall in the opposite camp. Floating heads, on their own, rarely make for good imagery. There is no anchor for the viewer to grasp. Another pinpoint of a light below the chin to show a hint of neck to the bottom of the frame is all that's needed.
