For the baby photo: I don't really like the angle of this shot. The side of the face makes me loose interest in the photo. Also the coloring seems a bit off I can't exactly say what. Her face almost looks like the texture of stone. Almost as if it was over sharpened. Children photos look best with softer textures. And sharpness in the eyes.

I think the photo of your daughter would be better if you were directly infront of her face. To catch her big beautiful eyes. Otherwise with this angle my focus goes to the redness in her cheeks instead of the eyes.

I notice that also on the black and white photo. The texture of the photo and the blotchy tones of both the hands and feet take away from the tender moment. It looks over exposed in areas and may actually look better in color. I also would have gotten the entire hand in the shot on both sides. cutting them off takes away from completing the photo. Composition otherwise is good with this photo.

I'd tinker with your settings a bit and perhaps do some other post processing.

Keep working with it :D

...the baby has lint in its toes but i couldn't really help that....
Of course you could have helped the lint between the toes.

Unless one is just doing unplanned snapshots, it is the photographers responsibility to check for and correct minor details like that before the shutter is released.

I actually pulled out a lot of lint from her babies toes before taking the shot but the baby really actually needed a bath......

You chopped the babies head off in the first photo. It looks well exposed :)
What mode are you shooting in?

See the white spots on the hands and legs in the second picture? That means that those parts are over exposed, there is no detail left. I would re-shoot and try again if you can.

Oopsies, I actually edited the photo to look overexposed...I dont know why I just liked the look of it...But I will try it just normally....Thanks for the c&c

The crop is bad in both of them. background is distracting in the first one. exposure on the second

Oh and I think I was shooting in aperture priority mode at f/5 I was for the one with the baby anyways :)

Thanks for the C&C you were very helpful!!

Here are some other feet photos I took....Are these better? The second one I also over-exposed on purpose. Is this unappealing? It seems to be so I think I will stop doing it.

(The first one is actually the same photo as the b/w one)

Here are a couple of other ones I took also,

The over exposure isn't appealing at least to me. When you overexpose it takes away from the photos depth especially if it's the majority of the photo. You can light photos and create the night soft lighter tones without over exposure. It's apparent the last two you posted. Her face is almost literally washed out. You want to see some kind of detail instead of eyes nose mouth. There is nothing wrong however with giving that lighter look. But when it starts to look overexposed is when it to me looses it's luster. I'd try to darken it up a bit and not cut off the top of her head in the first photo. Her eyes look unnaturally blue but beautiful none the less. Perhaps a baby poser could help you if you wanted to do some nice posed shots of her?

Overall her skin just looks white when it should have some kind of color to it.

Yeah the overexposed look, whether they were shot that way or edited that way or whatever, just doesn't work for me, especially in the photos of the feet because you lose all definition and the feet and the hands just all kind of blend together in to a big white mess that just makes my eyes hurt.

Your first shot is a nice snapshot, and it will be cute for anyone that knows the baby, and it will be a good picture to put in their baby album, but as a "portrait" it doesn't really work for reasons that other people have mentioned.

The last two you posted... normally I'm a saturation whore but these are too much for me... especially combined with the overexposed look, it really and truly hurts my eyes.

On the close-ups, try to commit to the close-up. You're kind of in should-I-or-shouldn't-I land with these, like they're so close you're cutting off body parts, but not so close that it looks intentional. Try either zooming in more and concentrating on the head and shoulders, or pull back so you can choose your crop in post. You're in between on these, in my opinion.

Keep shooting!
