That's pretty cool. You more or less nailed the shot, but 2 minutes in photoshop can make it really pop:

Hey, i'm new to this stuff, what settings did you modify this photo?

i didn't do the editing but my guess is either increased the contrast which in photoshop would be image>adjustments>curves.
or.
right click layer. duplicate. then use the drop down window that has the word normal in it and select overlay or hard light or linear light and adjust the fill and opacity to your liking.

Cool a timken tapered roller bearing...what's the something on top? Looks like the end of an old key or those things used to open cans from way back.

Nice photo.

its a huge chain link end welded to a rail road spike welded to the timken tapered roller bearing. i cut the spike off the rail road spike and welded a small piece of scrap metal the the bottom of the bearing to hold the whole thing up.

correct. i was trying to make the photo look as close to how my eye see's it.
