took yesterday evening, not sure if the red roses works with this but I felt in black and white the roses looked too bland, and I wanted to try and separate the roses and the friendly older guy selling them.

any thoughts would be appreciated, it was a quick edit and I'm not sure if cropping it differently would be better, or if it would be best to leave it all black and white, or all colour (no colour shot uploaded right now to compare with, sorry)

besides the selective coloring, it's a great shot! A bit less square on the crop wouldn't hurt, imho, but that coloring needs to go. It distracts from the great expression you captured and removes part of the overall story.

Selective colour is really an advertising technique, not a photographic one. It's purpose is to draw the eye to a specific point in the scene; ie the product being advertised. In this case you're making the roses the focal point of the image and not the vendor. I think a full monochrome, with higher contrast would work well. I like the scene and it's a great street capture, but this treatment doesn't work for me.

I like it! Some CC - I would have returned color to the bottom of the stems as well, I think you also missed a leaf by his hand. The BMW under/to the right of the flowers is a little distracting with that headlight. Maybe dump that from the pic since it's against an easy background to work with anyway.

Thanks for the input! I'll work with the crop and try and play around with all black and white or monochrome and I see what you mean by that, very much appreciated!

I like that, there's a ton of custom options in perfect photo suite 8 and I'm going to go through those and see if I can find one I like and then tweak where necessary. I hadn't realized that colouring the roses would pull so much attention away from the older guy, but having someone say it made me see that's why it felt off to me when I finished it (and it was a very quick and sloppy edit)
