im new to this forum..so hi everybody..i needed some help regarding getting a camera.since i like taking snaps....but the problem is that i dont know which camera to buy....i have seen a few canon ones... canon E50 , CANON E60 . CANON REBEL ( x1 or something) and a canon eos 450d,,,,all of them looked nice and were also comfortable in my hands..i dont know which one to buy.... i dont know what exactly to look for when i say that i am looking for a good camera. the only few things i know is that it should have a good resolution( if someone can explain what a good resolution is) , maybe more than 10mpx , HD , something which would make few pixels in the picture..i just know randomly.. so the ones i got to know through some research and friends were those mentioned above. Moreover since the christmas sale and boxers day n what not sale is on...i would like to buy them now.. n also from where can i get them..i saw wal-mart and future store had the same models. any other good place is the USA or Canada where i would get a good deal??
it would be of great help if u guys gave me a reply,,,this camera would also help me build a portfolio soon....

I don't shoot Canon but my friends that do highly recommend finding a used Canon 30D for a starter/entry level camera. Try and find one that comes with a lens for cheap, with a low shutter count.

Forget it. You are no where close to the point of purchase. "i would like to buy them now" You are at the beginning phase of learning and research. Likewise you are no where near "this camera would also help me build a portfolio soon..."

How helpful.

Shruti, the Canon XSI is a nice entry level camera that you can grow into.
Do your friends own Canons? If they do, I'd suggest sticking to the same brand just so you could borrow lenses. ;)

yes i know..which is why the question..! the quicker i start ..the more i learn ...

what about the ones i mentioned..are they not good enough?

canon XSI ..is what i was thinking too..thank you..

canon E50 , CANON E60 . CANON REBEL ( x1 or something) and a canon eos 450d

Probably got the models mixed up a little. Most likely it's the:

Canon 60D
Canon 50D
Canon Rebel XTi: 400D (or something)
and the 450D is a Canon Rebel XSi

The 50 and 60 are higher end, magnesium alloy, larger bodied cameras. The 2 rebels are plastic, a little smaller, and a lot cheaper. An XSi is a great starter camera.. you can also find a T1i (500D) or T2i (550D - the newest Rebel) for around 600 and 700 dollars respectively.

All of those camera models above are 1.6x crop sensor cameras that will accept EF and EF-S mount lenses. A little more research and reading won't hurt though, it would be a shame for you to have buyers' remorse after such a large purchase.

I like to buy my stuff online. Amazon, b&h, adorama.. they're all good online retailers for photo gear and sometimes the reviews are pretty good.

Thanks for adding your comment. Is it me or am I finding too many sarcastic and unhelpful one liners in here. I joined here today and as a "newbie" I am saddened already by some comments I have read. I also detect the I'm an expert and your not attitude as well. Sheesh! I hope this is not a trend here.

Cheers

The interweb is full of different points of views. Just look past the ones you disagree with and remember every cloud always has a silver lining.

Is this in reference to SoBo's post?

Seriously....I agree with sobolik's post...as a former camera salesman, the OP is in no way "ready to buy"....the OP is indeed "at the beginning stages" of a purchase decision....the OP doesn't even have a framework for what the choices even might possibly be...sorry, but the truth is the truth. My advice: go to a store, not an on-line forum, and examine, demo, and handle some cameras. An hour there will be worth a month here. You'll learn what models are for sale, and what feels good to you. Perhaps after a week or so, you'll be able to accurately determine what you think you like most. You need to decide on P&S, bridge, advanced compact, or d-slr, or micro 4/3, etc, etc. And a budget.

And sorry OP, but to quote myself: "A camera does not build the portfolio, just as a hammer does not build a house."

Isn't the op in the beginning stage of looking for a camera? Is that not what he is doing here?

Yes. And the OP's post is entitled "camera confusion". I used to sell photo/video for a living 5 days a week. I've sold so many cameras I cannot count...60-65-80-100 a month. The OP needs to at least dip a toe into the market before buying ANYTHING. A few hours in a couple of camera stores, or even an afternoon at a Best Buy or whatever the Canadian equivalent is, would be worth a MONTH on-line reading words.
