Camera for Pet photography?

I currently have a Sony a37, which is a nice camera but I feel like it lacks color. I am thinking about investing in a camera I can grow with as a photographer and is awesome for photographing pets. I want a camera that takes awesome action shots, has vibrant colors, and does well with dim lighting. Any suggestions? I have been comparing and researching cameras but want to get as much feedback as possible. TIA!!

Does ANY camera have better colors than Sony?

"better colours" is a bit of a poor way to determine things. Firstly the colours present will rely very strongly upon the lighting, the same camera in different lighting situations will produce very different results.

Then you've editing - in-camera you can adjust the JPEG editing to increase or decrease a range of effects, or you can do so yourself in editing programs outside of the camera after taking the photos. Rich and vibrant colours are often more the result of good lighting conditions and control.


Also what camera would suit depends on how much you want to spend and also what kind of shooting setup you want. DSLRs are often touted as the best, but if you just want instant photos with no editing then many bridge cameras can be far more ideal; or how about the new mirrorless range of cameras, interchangeable lenses but smaller than even entry level DSLR setups.

Camera's are not awesome for photographing anything. Photographers are awesome, not camera's. With that said some gear can limit you in some situations. Go tray any of the DSLR's that interest you and see what seems to suit you. From there it is going to be a matter of learning photography. Start with the manual and read it more than once. Practice with the camera and learn to post process you images.
