How about a 50D? A little hesitant about buying a used 5D.

The 5D mark 2 is a bit out of the budget.

I use a 50D, but I'm getting a full-frame camera soon for studio. I'd buy a used 5D or 1ds. Just make sure that you check it out first. I've bought a majority of my gear used and saved about $800 and it's all in great shape.

Toatal noob question: What is the advantage of full frame (5D) vs 50D??

Better IQ due to the pixel density being less, so the pixels themselves are larger. This allows more light in and reduces noise, as well as a lot of other technical crap. Full frame also allows a lens to be used at the focal length it was built for (24mm is actually the full 24mm wide).

24mm will be 24mm on any camera. The focal length designation is actually a measurement based on the physical specifications of the lens and has nothing to do with the camera.

The field of view of a particular focal length will change based on what format camera you're using, but the physical focal length of the lens never will. 24mm is 24mm on a large format, medium format, 35mm, full frames, APS-D, APS-C, or 4/3 camera, the view is what changes between them.

Looking for a used 5D, anyone have one for sale? Any recomendations on where to find one? Would need it shiped to Canada.

For film SLR on a tight budget, would suggest the 50mm f/1.4, an 85mm or 100 mm f/2.8 and possibly a 135mm f/2.8 for any insert shots.

Medium-format is better suited for enlarging from film negative.
