From land , I have a Nikon d 7500 with an 18-300 mm lens, the video quality is ok but the autofocus seems to be searching while I’m recording, anyways I’m leaning towards Sony alpha series and maybe a 70-300 mm , just not sure which alpha for best results and not to break the bank, thanks so muchAre you shooting from land only or will you be shooting from the ocean as well?
Thank youG'day SM
..... and as @alan also asks - where will you be shooting from?
However, the lens is more important than the camera - as the lens 'gets you out to the surfer' whereas the camera simply records the view. Yes I well realise that the exposure settings are important too!
I do heaps of surfing shooting using my walk-around Lumix FZ-300 with its 24x zoom lens. Whether I am on the beach or on a local headland close to the action, I have a shooting distance from 75-metres to 200-metres
Shutter speed is critical - anything below 1/1000 shows movement
ps- the Lumix FZ-300 lens is a 24-625mm in FF terms (18 to 435 in dSLR terms) and all built into the ready-to-go camera
Hope this helps
Phil
