view the video (art of Paul Gauguin). i've been trying, for quite a while, to identify specifically, the music (the composition) used in the first half of this video (not the new-age music, later on.) Name of the piece and the composer would be great to know! thanks youtube.com/ + this.. watch?v=gE7G4GFXVC8 (because video embedd has been disabled by request)
It's Fauré's Sicilienne Op. 78. But it's not a very good version. This (clicky) would be my personal choice.
well done. many thanks. i established it is a piece from Pelleas et Melisande but was unable to identify it specifically. thankyou both.
Just being pedantic... The version in Pelleas et Melisande is scored for harp, flute and orchestra and is Op. 80. The piece you wanted identifying is the same tune but scored for cello and piano and is Op. 78. This means that technically it isn't from Pelleas et Melisande but in all probability came before it and he re-used the tune.
aha! that is useful to know. because it is precisely the cello and piano arrangement that i enjoy the most. after you identified the piece i searched around on youtube and yes..i found various performances - some featuring flute, some with harp as well as cello+piano. thankyou.
