Can I check the shutter count without a lens?

I'm buying a used camera from some random guy and he doesn't know the shutter count.
He has no lens. Will it still actuate and give me a jpeg that I can upload to a computer even though it doesn't have a lens attached?

The manual should tell you whether or not it requires input from a lens. The manual is a free download.

Not all camera bodies record the shutter clicks. I can't say whether the Sony's do or don't.
