Canon 30D First Shot: The Staredown

My backup body arrived today (woot!), a Canon 30D that I got from KeH for $179.

I searched for a memory card, it takes a CF card and I luckily had a 32mb card :lmao: but hey, gotta use what ya got! Since the card will only store two raw files I put it in jpeg, medium.

Didn't take long for the turkeys to show up and I grabbed my camera when these two toms started facing off, unfortunately they went behind a tree to settle their dispute.

So this like I said is jpeg/med shot with Canon 18-200 lens. F8ish ISO500 (which I was most curious about) 1/1000ish on the wrong side of the light shot through the window. I'm VERY pleased with how it handled it! Sharpened it up a smidge, added a little saturation and uploaded.

I read that & thought - shoot, 32 ain't bad..... oh, wait -- MB?? Lol.

Its a decent body.

I had a silver 300D once upon a time (The original digital rebel) @ ~6MP. Takes EF-S too which is nice, still have the mk.1 18-55mm USM kit lens around as a backup.

Can support FAT32 formatted CF cards up to 2gb

Yours is a little sharper and better built. You can fit hundreds of pics on a 1 or 2gb card, hopefully. Mine failed after only about 50k clicks though

If its not already, update the firmware, that fixed a bunch of images I had with RAW compatibility and EXIF data.

Lee, I don't know what the white stuff is that you see, I no longer choose to see white, although there is some of the stuff falling from the sky right about now (grumpy bunny!).

Too funny, one day I came home from work and no greeting from the dogs. Not a peep, that had never happened before, i started thinking something could be seriously wrong. I walk in the house to see them both out on the deck looking up at the roof. They looked at me then immediately started staring at the roof again. I walked out on the deck to find a half dozen turkey up on my roof. I've always wondered how long that staring contest had gone on lol
