Canon 500mm f4 L USM

I would be pretty surprised if the 400 DO II + TC was sharper than the 500 F4 Naked. I could be wrong though... Would love to see some tests..

Here is some samples from some sites that are impressive. Once I test it myself I will post some samples. And the samples are with the 2x tc pretty impressive

The first Hawk looked ok. Not sure if the IQ would hold at larger sizes than 1600px.. . Bet it would look better with the 500 F4 and the 7dm2 which would be the same "reach" but only ISO 400 and much faster AF.
I couldn't get to the second one..

I agree Kris I think the 500mm will be sharper especially when you take in account the lower f stop and ISO.

I have no problem hiking 5+ miles with it, but I have my crazy cheap strap, so all the weight is on my shoulders. I'm so used to the weight I don't even think about it, unless I forget my strap, then it sucks carrying it around by the tripod foot

What strap are you running?

You are going to laugh. Amazon.com : Rainbowimaging Quick Release Dual-shoulder Camera Neck Strap for Canon Nikon Olympus Pentax Panasonic Sony Dslr + Lens - Black : Camera And Optics Carrying Straps : Camera & Photo I replace it every 4-6 months as the snap wears out and I use it every day. I purchased about .78 worth of 1/4"x20 bolt with a lock washer and flat washer about 4 year ago and criss-cross the supplied mounts. Go to minute 11:12 Still using the same bolt. I did change the setup and bolt both to the tripod foot now... I also have a fail safe strap from the lens directly through one of the straps..

I'm not laughing. That's a butload cheaper setup than the black rapid I just saw.

Big time CONGRATS, and I am jealous. You guys are killing me.
Kris, glad to see you don't spend crazy money on Black Rapids either. I use Optech sling, and can't figure out what BR would offer me other than a pouch to put a card in and take up the tripod mount (which I rarely use anyway, but whateverrrrrr). One day I will try BR just to see what if anything it does better.

I use Optech sling, and can't figure out what BR would offer me other than a pouch to put a card in and take up the tripod mount (which I rarely use anyway, but whateverrrrrr). One day I will try BR just to see what if anything it does better.

Well you will get a "B" on the strap instead of a "K" or "Q" as the generic ones come with.. I think they have a nubby type fastener too, although some of the generic ones come with that now too. I bought the optech one once, but it didn't work out the same. I used some of the pieces for my fail safe though

Oh yes. Im guessing something would have to change if I add a 500.
