Canon Powershot SD1000

I recently purchased a Canon Powershot SD1000 point and shoot digital camera. I'm pretty new to photography. I would appreciate any tips on using this camera or in general about photography so that I can improve. Even basic things are probably things I don't know. Any insight would be appreciated.
