Canon RS60-E3 problems

I have one of these remote controls for my canon 400D and recently it got a little bit of a soaking. Ever since then its not worked right - it will fire the shutter when directly attached to the camera, and then will allow me to fire the shutter as normal when in single shot mode - but will lock me out of the controls - all the controls - on the back of the camera. I am hoping this is a problem with the remote alone and not something wrong with my camera.
Anyone got any advice?

just to add after spending a few days in a sealed pouch with its own little back of silica gel its now working fine --
