Canon Vs. Nikon

I do mostly sports photography along with some portrait photography and looking to upgrade my equipment by March. I am not sure what would be the best body to upgrade to or if I should even switch to Canon. I already plan on selling what I have to upgrade. Right now I am considering the Nikon D700 with Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you already use Nikon - and are presumably happy with it - then I don't see any reason to switch to Canon. The D700 / 70-200 combination would i'm sure serve your purposes very well.

You're going from 1.6x crop to no crop. Depending on what sports you shoot, your lens choice may be a bad idea. What about a cheaper 70-200 and a 400 or 500mm option? Canon has a 400mm f/5.6 for under $1,300. Other than that the wider aperture lenses get very expensive.
