yeah yeah. Stupid cat pictures. People hate them. I know.

Ok, well I've been goofing around with the canon 30D I got a while back. Still haven't taken many pictures with it, relative to my sony. I have one lens, 28-105 3.5-4.5. This was at 105mm, 4.5.

Something seems "wrong" here. I struggled with the crop, perhaps I could have come up with something better? I did bw because the color seemed kind of bland and I was in a black and white mood. The light was nothing special, either. It seemed ok to keep, though, but I may change my mind and get rid of it.

I do know that the nose is slightly oof. And I realize that it's pretty darn contrasty. Did I cross a line?

I'll post both the finished and the original so that you can see if something better could be done. Thanks!

I like kitty pictures. I am not fond of B&W shots. However, the B&W conversion you did I think is very good. I like the shot all the way. The eyes are great. In focus. You got the cat to smile at a good time. Only thing I would say would to be to trim the right side down a little more. Still quite a bit of dead space there.

I like the crop over the original.
The black and white suits the subject very well.

The ears, head, and the eyes are in focus, but the nose, mouth, upper chest are not. IMO

Are you saying that is a good thing or a bad thing? Personally, I feel the main parts of the subject are in focus, most importantly the eyes. Wide open aperture will do that for ya, I feel it works.

I like the crop and the b&w. You did well. And btw, I like cat pics!

Nice picture. I like the crop and the black and white conversion, plus you have a nice catch light in the cat's eyes. Care to share with us how you did the conversion?

Cheers,

BW conversion:
open jpeg in PSE 8 adobe camera raw
slide saturation bar all the way desaturated, making it bw
up contrast and brightness
adjust temperature
open edited jpeg in normal PSE8
adjust levels
some selective burning and dodging
then I think I did the contrast again. Anyway, that's what I normally do.

Thanks!
