CC Prease on Couple's Portraits

Last time I took someone outside, I suffered from major dappled lighting, moderate headaches and severe heart burns. I was hoping for redemption this time. Here's a set that I did for my friends yesterday at the studio and at the lake. CC please on lighting and poses. Hopefully, I redeemed myself with the outside shots. Also, I'm shooting a lot of these at 5.6 but one subject is still out of focus Is this a fact of life, or can I still increase my dof and get some decent bokeh in the back?

Thanks Mmaria. My hand has gotten a bit heavy with the vignette. I'll start pulling back. For the studio shots, I used a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4, and I used a 60mm 2.8 Nikkor for outdoors.

Pretty good job--photogenic couple. They are all pretty tight, might wanna work on that a bit too, you can always crop in. This is something I'm working on myself.

I wouldn't use 5.6 when it's about photos like these, casual and relaxed, different weight couples etc. If they were more formal then I would use it. I would rather be sure in my focus.
Next time try different fstop and see what you're comfortable with

I don't see where there is a DOF/focus issue in these shots due to using f/5.6 vs f/6.7.

The images: Agree with Maria's comments and I'll add that #3 seems cropped rather too tightly, and in general your crops have cut off bits of fingers, etc that are less than ideal.

When it comes to DoF, use whatever's appropriate. DoF is a very finite and calcuable quantity. Measure the distance from your camera to the subject, and determine the best DoF based on that and the rest of the conditions at the time. There's a reason I keep a measuring tape in my "junk" box!
